We are happy to invite members of the international Next Gen community to join us for a weekend of inspiration, learning and building connections at the annual Winter Academy.

We will explore what it will take for family businesses to thrive and grow in the future, with special focus on sustainability.

On Friday we will take a seminar day trip to the nearby Oivangin Lomakartano (Oivanki holiday mansion). The program on Friday includes  the family business story of Oivangin Lomakartano Oy and engaging group workshopsTopics of the workshops are "Imagining the Future Responsibility" by Elo + Fennia, "Does sustainability equal good business? How to succeed in the #ESG-world and leverage sustainability by focusing on material and most important issues?" by OP Financial Group and "Total impact model game: Moving from a shareholder to stakeholder model" by PwC.

On Saturday, the seminar continues at Ruka with an inspiring keynote "The Future of Growth" by Growth Tribe's Finland CEO Anssi Rantanen, as well as compelling family business cases by Brigitta Deák of Biofilter Environmental Co and Lauri Voipio of Novametor Oy.

GETTING TO RUKA

Please note, that you need to handle your own travel arrangements and make sure to do it well in advance! There are several ways to get to Ruka, depending on how you wish to travel.

By air

Finnair flies directly between Helsinki and Kuusamo. We will arrage bus transportation between Ruka and Kuusamo airport for these flights:

Helsinki-Kuusamo Thursday 30.1.2020 Finnair AY485 departing at 12:20
Kuusamo-Helsinki Sunday 2.2.2020 Finnair AY486 departing at 14:05

By train and bus

Looking for a comfortable and sustainable way to travel to Ruka? Train and bus combo is a great choice. There are three railway stations located near Ruka, but we suggest traveling by train to Oulu and then rest of the way to Ruka by bus. Here are a few train services we recommend:

Helsinki-Oulu Wednesday 29.1.2020 InterCity 273 departing at 23:13
Helsinki-Oulu Thursday 30.1.2020 Pendolino 35 departing at 5:22
Oulu-Helsinki Sunday 2.2.2020 InterCity 26 departing at 13:38
Oulu-Helsinki Sunday 2.2.2020 Pendolino 56 departing at 16:27

You can find a detailed timetable and buy train tickets on the Finnish Railways (VR) website. Before booking your tickets, we recommend checking the bus connections between Oulu and Ruka!

By car

Ruka is 800 km from Helsinki by the shortest road route. Helsinki and Kuusamo are connected by highways E75 and 5, or you can travel via the city of Oulu. There are plenty of round-the-clock service stations and food outlets along the way.

Roadtrip, anyone?!

Anssi Rantanen

CEO, Growth Tribe Academy, Finland

Anssi Rantanen is a growth marketing expert, serial entrepreneur, and public speaker. He is interested in the omnipresent shift towards a more digital and integrated world and has helped over 50+ companies implement and execute growth strategies during a 3-year career at Google. Anssi Rantanen has also founded 3 companies in the last 10 years. He is a growth coach for startups and corporates and is currently CEO at Growth Tribe in Finland, an education company that teaches companies the skills that they need in order to succeed. Growth Tribe is Europe’s first and leading Growth Academy. The company empowers people and companies to rapidly gain new skills in areas such as ‘data-driven growth marketing’ or ‘A.I. without code’.

Anssi Rantanen learned whilst at Google how the fastest companies in the world systematise their growth. His time at the company gave him a unique perspective on the future of growing companies. At Google, he worked closely with 40+ Finnish marketing organisations (from scale-ups to corporates), which gave him a unique birds-eye view of the growth capabilities and processes of companies today.

Rantanen believes that the future winners emphasize learning and self-directed teams. He’s noticed that many of the large companies lack the ability to take risks. “At the 100 000 employee size Google was still taking risks and being entrepreneurial was celebrated. There continuous learning was inherent in the culture, whereas most other corporates don’t embrace similar values” Rantanen says.
